I posted this in accessories but only one person replied lol, maybe I'll get more feedback here?

Here is the cooler, a Cooler Master U3 which as you can see has three fans you place yourself, as well as the bottom of the laptop with labels for reference.

The red box shows where the case gets really hot; the orange box shows roughly the area of the palmrest that gets hot. I've drawn yellow boxes around all the grills/vents on the bottom, I don't know what they all do. One of the vents is drawn with an oval because that one gets completely covered up by the bottom of the lid when you open it.

A slight closeup of the area near the red box/hot area, and close-up of vent labeled B, which has the built-in fan:

If more images are needed I will post them, though my camerawork is terrible as is my camera.

Should I leave that area with the laptop's built in fan (B) clear, and put the U3's fans elsewhere? If so, where?

Oh and note: the box labeled A is the subwoofer, not a vent lol.

I think cool air naturally is drawn in to vents C, D, E and F as heat rises out around the keyboard and joints. I always leave my lid open even when I am not on my laptop if its on and plugged in. I use mine more as desktop replacement.
I am not sure if a fan under B, system fan, would make anything worse, if not would be better with cool airflow. I don't know about one fan blowing on another fan and damaging it? but it would be blowing cool air more through B and out of those vents and perhaps making your red rectangle cooler. I assume theres like the "heat pipe" type parts to the GPU and CPU under the red rectangle.

Your memory is at vent C, main processor at vent D, hard drive(s) at vent E, and the graphics processor is about 1-1 1/2" above vent F.

I would try different positions and then monitor to see what works best for you. A fan under B may or may not help. The only way to find out is to give it a go. It won't hurt anything to try one out in that position.

Can you post some pictures of your Envy sitting on the cooler? I'd like to see it from the front side and back to get an idea of the size of the U3.

    Thanks,

    Dave

Good info, thanks. Probably better to fan the gpu than the ram I'm thinking.

Can you post a review on how well the u3 works with your HP and what seems to be the best configuration for the fans? Thanks.

I want to set up this for the envy 14 aswell ....
Any suggestions on how I shoudl set up the fans for this one?

edit: I am eyeballing the u2 ... not the u3.
But either way: how is the airflow of the envy 14 actually?
