my hp dv4t-1300 CTO is still under 1 yr warranty. brought it from hp.com
The problem with my dv4t is that its "L" key is not function properly. Sometimes i have to press three or four times to type "L", or i have to press hard. What is wrong with it? Is it hardware problem? Should i call tech support and send it back to hp for repairE?? Thanks for your suggestion.
By the way, how long does it take for a round trip repaire? And i have downgrade from vista to xp, does it matter? do i have to reinstall to vista? Thanks for your answer

If its only your L key thats not working on your keyboard and everything else is functioning normally, then yes, you have a defective keyboard. Pretty simple fix, but if your unit is still in warranty call HP support and arrange to have it picked up for repair. They may repair the unit quicker, but Id plan on not having it for about 3 weeks. I sent a unit in for repair in June (that we think may have been sat on) and it came back looking like new in 5 days . but I wouldnt plan on that always being the case.
Also, you dont have to re-install Vista for the repair but in the process they will also check the unit, update the BIOS, and will likely wipe your hard drive and restore the operating system to its original delivery configuration. Before you send it back:
1. Backup your data .. and your XP device drivers
2. If youve added or changed RAM put it back the way it came.
3. If youve changed the hard drive, put the original drive back in if you have it.
There are many many stories out there of units coming back minus owner upgrades and people totally shocked that their units come back with a new and/or re-imaged hard drive.
Best of luck . -
Hmm, it's usually something as simple as prying the cap off the key, reseating the rubber button underneath and putting the cap back on. But this does require some dexterity as not to break the tiny clips that hold the key cap in place.

Thanks OldMajorDave!
Yes, only "L" key is not function. Hopefully this is a fast round trip.
I had an experienced with Dell's laptop. They aired a box to me, and everything was fast. The only downside was that they took off my "Centrino" logo~~ not sure why they did that
Once again, thanks for your info.
