the hp shopping website says 14 days and i think thats way too long. dell actually also shows a similar timeframe but it never takes more than 3-4 business days for them to ship the product. so my question is, if i order today how long will my laptop come in roughly?

    thanks

I would guess the average experience is that you receive the notebook at your home on the date that they originally estimate that it will finish being built in China. As you get closer to the holidays I assume that there is more variation in that time frame than normal though.

2 weeks is the typical duration. Actually, HP will tell you much longer deliver time, and your machine will arrive early. I order my V3000Z at Nov. 10th. They said to be arrive 29th, but I got that in Thanksgiving morning.

I ordered a customized Presario v3000z on Nov. 18th and it was shipped on Nov. 24th. The estimate online said the build-date would be December 5th. Additionally, I paid for ground shipping (5-7 days) but it arrived from Canada (build-site) to Houston, TX on the morning of the 27th. It's great it came so quickly but had I known I would've had it shipped to my apartment and not where I'll be spending Christmas. Now I have to wait another 10-14 days!!!

I ordered mine last Wednesday and it gave me a build date of Dec. 5th but it shipped yesterday and it's supposed to be here on Thursday, Nov. 30th....So I think it's just an estimate.....but yeah I'm going to have mine in hand before their estimated build date.

The time given is an ESTIMATE....

Rule #1 In BUSINESS... you under promise and over deliver...

Meaning you tell the customer 14 days, and it will arrive in 10.. :D

    Makes the customer "happy".. :)

That being said there are delays  that can pop-up.... Delays in parts shipments, excessive orders, Storms, ships sinking, airplanes crashing, earthquakes, strikes
    (No strikes in China though)....

    I ordered a dv8000t April 3, 2006 from www.COSTCO.com , it shipped the 7th, arrived East Coast U.S.A the 10th by 8:30am..

Est ship date was the 12th... arrived two days before it was supposed to ship.

PS: You'd be a FOOL to order from HP.com, instead of Costco..

    HP 21-day return window
    Costco =180 days

Read thru this thread, ask these guys if they wish they had not bought from HP direct.

If I had ordered thru HP.com, instead of Costco.com I'd be in the same boat as those poor souls... Returned the unit to Costco, got ALL my money back.

Hmm....I wouldnt go that far. Try configuring this specification for the V3000z at both HP & Costco and see the price difference. Unless I'm missing something obvious I dont think its always better to just blindly buy from Costco...

    Same laptop from HP.com costs - $639.19 - $180(instant rebate) + $30.49(WV Tax) + 49(Shipping) = $538.68 - $100 = $438.68. The instant rebate makes the difference & dont think paying $180 extra just to get a 180 day return window makes sense.

    miner,

I agree in certain cases buying from HP direct would be cheaper and paying 180 dollars extra on a unit that's only going to cost you $438.68 after all the rebates come back would not be cost effective.

In other cases in which the price was closer, the unit more expensive buying from Costco would make more sense.

So to clarify ,,, if there isn't a BIG differance in price between HP direct and COSTCO... you'd be a FOOL to buy from HP directly since HP only offers a 21-day return window, after which you're stuck with the unit.

Compared to 180 days if the unit is purchased thru Costco.
