I tried adding my TV as a monitor but can not get it to work. I used a s video to composite adapter(yellow rca plug) and then "extended windows desktop" in display properties but TV never shows anything. Any help? Thanks.

Go to Control Panel -> Display -> Settings -> Advanced -> ATI Displays.

Make sure the button for TV is pressed.

No, it does not work with that S-Video to composite as with some laptops( my old dell has that kind of connector). The connector you are using is special connecter where the output comes thru two another different pins. So, it is not going to work with this laptop( or many new ones) though connector fits.

You need to use standard S-Video cable and if your TV does not have S-Video connector, then there are special convertors( not the one you are using) which has a small circuit built it which merges seprate Chroma and Luma into standard RCA connector.

You can use this one and connect to TV using standard RCA cable($5)

    http://www.svideo.com/svrca1in.html

or this one even better with 12 foot cable( thought little pricey at $15) and maintains proper 75 OHM impedence required.

    http://www.svideo.com/msvmrca12.html

Sometimes video cards try to detect TV by checking the impedence, if it is not 75 OHMs they do not see the TV.( But not a problem with most new ones).

I used second type I mentioned( with built in circuit and cable) on V2000z and it worked fine( same video card as yours).

But I am pretty sure either of those will work. ( checkout local PC recycle stores and you may be able to pick one for $2).

I have a SCART cable with S-video IN, S-video Out, Audio In, Audio Out. The SCART connector is at the one end and all the other stuff - on the other, plus the SCART connector has an In/Out button (this cable is crazy). Yet I cannot connect my l2000 so that I get a picture on the TV. I can recognize that it is trying to show the desktop on the TV but nothigh viewable.

Any ideas? Can I cut the existing cable and make one S-video to S-video cable out of it?

    Hi Vassil,

I think SCART S-Video configuration is little different. Does your TV has S-Video in? if it has, then that is the cheapest and easiest( $2 to $4 for S-Video cable).

If it has Composite( RCA yellow) and SCART, then use the adapter I suggested above.

If you want to use existin SCART connection and use with S-Video cable, this is the PIN setting for SCART vs S-Video

S-Video Out PINS TV Scart (Input) PINS

Luminance Out (Y) 20 Luminance In
Chrominance Out (C) 15 Chrominance In
    GND 4+17 GND

I did not get exact Idea about how your cable looks like. I think you would be able to figure out that.

BTW are you able to get some picture at all? or nothing. If you are getting B&W or picture is scrolling, then it would potentially output format setting( NTSC vs PAL).

Thanks, Chinna. I'm away for the weekend but I will post back with a picture or two of the cable when I come back. It really is a strange one - Svideo in and Svideo out on the same side of the cable!?
My TV does have Svideo, 2 Scart as well as RCA yellow, red and white (as far as I remember). I wanted to get a simple S-video to Svideo but they were out of it in Office One Superstore (Europe only, I think) so I got this many-in-one-but-useless cable for $8.

Btw, the cable is something like this here

but with one more Svideo and a switch on the SCART for IN and OUT (the cable is intended for both TV to computer and Computer to TV)

Here's a pic of my cable (sorry for the bad quality but my camera just broke and that's what I got from my phone). The red and black connectors are Audio R/L In/Out (four of them), two S video (in and out) and the SCART.
Chinna, do you think I can cut this thing and make Svideo to Svideo cable? Obviously it won't work otherwise...
Is this how I should connect the wires inside the cable?
    Thanks a lot

    P.S>
Actually I'm sure I'm gonna cut it so any ideas are most welcome :)

The picture was scrolling so much that it was barely distinguisable from nothing. Yet I'm sure that the Desktop of my laptop was trying to come out. I tried Pal/Secam and NTSC, no success. I tried on two TVs and with two laptops (l2000 and zv6000).

Yes, you can potentiall cut those two S-Video cables from that adapter and join(solder) and insulate those 4 wires( S-Video has 4 wires in side the cable). Make sure you connect same wires on both sides( if you have Multimeter that would be easy findout if it is coming and going to same cable or not) . And it should work as S-Video cable.

Picture scrolling problem, may be S-Video pins are not properly mapped so TV is getting confused by signal coming from chroma or luma.

Have you tried the 'Fn'+'F4' trick? Hold down the 'Fn' key and press F4.

I cut the cable and connected the two Svideo ends. Now it's working great!
As far as I can tell, the connections in the SCART end were messed up but now they are all gone :)
