But, but, but, he doesn't think that it is a GOOD DEAL.Macs are made in the same factories as all the other products that you seem to feel are inferior. go read the Apple forums to get an idea of the REAL problems people have with Apple products. I've followed Apple product forums for over 10 years so I am quite familiar. I also have a dozen Apple products between my wife and I, but none of them are Apple computers.

I have the 13" MacBookPro and I love it for what it is, but there is no way I would pay $2600 for 15" MacBookPro which in similar configuration from HP costs around $1000 (with coupon), including 1080P screen. -
In terms of bang for your buck:
DV6t Quad Edition w/ 1080p > Macbook Pro 13 >> DV6t Quad Edition w/out 1080p (because the 768p screen sucks)
Another laptop worth considering is the DV6z Quad Edition that was just released.

(link to a config with the 6750M + 1920x1080 display added - you must have these upgrades. Consider this the "base" model: you can add other upgrades if needed, but don't downgrade the display or the graphics card)
It uses crossfire between the integrated AMD graphics chip and the discrete AMD graphics chip. GPU power should be at least the same in theory, though it has less CPU power. $706 with coupon code NBP61449 . -
Would I love to have a 1080p screen? Yes, but when I bought it it wasn't available and now that it is, I wouldn't have spent the amount of money it costs.
And it makes running games at native easier, not that the 6770m couldn't handle most games at 1080p, just the top graphics intense games.
Not that I want to start a fight, I just want to know why people want 1080p that bad on a laptop. Is it for being able to window space for programming, editing code (as justified as this is, when I was doing Matlab on my old Dell, 1280x800 was just fine, and at college level, pre-job, are you going to be coding all day long?) Is it to watch Bluray movies? Games? And lastly IDK, if the Color Gamut and contrasts are much better with this brand of 1080p cause the HP's is not top of the line (although with tweaking it looks good enough).
The reason I said the 1080p thing was because, if you're going for power, that's justified, and you really can't blame someone for wanting the specs, but 1080p is aesthetic in this situation, so if you can save major $, and get a accidental warrenty, why not? -
And don't sacrifice the screen just to get a better warranty. You're guaranteed to use the screen every day, but you may not even need the warranty. Just be careful with the computer and you won't need accidental coverage. Plus, with the 30% coupon, you're not saving as much money as it looks, because 30% off of $150 is $45 off, which brings the upgrade cost down to $105. Plus, with the new coupon, the configuration with the 6770M and the 1080p display is actually cheaper than the configuration OP was looking at buying.
The logic goes:
- Low-res screen + accidental warranty = you get a less-useful computer (due to the low screen resolution), and if by slim chance you break it, you have a warranty that will bring your computer back to life - but it's still got the same less-useful screen however you put it.
- High-res screen + no accidental warranty = your computer is a lot more useful, just be slightly more careful with it -
Getting a better screen isn't an aesthetic option. Going with steel gray over dark umber is an aesthetic option. The 1080p screen is very much a functional option.

Some people place a lot of value on form, and some on function. It's all in what you choose to spend your hard earned dollars on. I prefer to spend mine on performance. If I could get an MBP with my dv6t's specs for say...1300? I'd be all over it. I can't, however, and I'm not willing to drop 2k+ on a computer. -
-
I think 1080 on a 15 inch screen would hurt my eyes too whereas 1366 seems just right. I bought the 6100 to game on the road (business trips) and to surf the net so no real need for the higher res.
I can understand if this is someone's one and only computer and they wanted all the goodies in one package. But even then, if this was my main computer, I'd buy a 24 inch and up external monitor to do anything serious. A good external monitor will cost about the upgrade to 1080 that HP is charging.
My 1366 screen is not bad, not great. I dont like the reflective screen...otherwise its ok. I never understand why manufacturers use horrible glossy screens. -
Actually, the 1080p screen for the 6100 is antiglare (matte) screen which make it really worth 150 (typical upgrade price for most OEMs). Much more worth it than my XPS 15 1080 glossy screen.
You can up the dpi globally for those app that are usually aware of it like browers and word editors, so you don't have to squint. -
I'm telling you the macbook non pro's are total crap.
therefore there are macbooks which have poor build quality.
For 1000$ you can get better specs AND more reliable, solid hardware.
And let me also point out you say they are "rock solid" but, they aren't worth 2k+.
Then they obviously aren't good for what they cost.
We can play the subjectivist game all day long but, the objective truth is that the mac series is horribly over priced and the only thing mac has over any other laptop is a higher price and subjectively looks better. -
no one is ever saying a thing about price.
we're talking about quality. it is good. any other conclusion is a lie. -
Okay so I don't think the OP is even following this thread. He hasn't posted at all anywhere on the forums since this thread was made, let alone replied to anything in this thread.
-
I don't buy Mac now because as many here have noted the price is just ridiculous. I'm definitely all about better specs for my money. I'll let the Ad exec and wannabe musicians/designers hand over their hard earned to Apple. I did my bit to make Apple grossly rich (and irresponsible/arrogant towards their customers as a result). -
Second of all, I clearly said that I find them to be overpriced, and thus will not buy them.
My point was that MacBooks are well made, but they are not good value.
I'm not even really sure what you're trying to argue, other than that you dislike MacBooks. -
^^ my thoughts exactly

thanks for all the replies
i have been reading this without logging in. parents are less hostile when it comes to buying hp but they are hesitated. now its hp vs macpro 13" base model. do you think there will be any big sales for hp coming soon? my dell is 4 years and the screen is having issues, buttery sucks (wont even last 2 hours), and sometimes the internet get stuck. do hp last more than 4 years and how is the battery for the 6 cell?
-
-
the internet explore sometimes doesn't respond. now the dell is pretty much used as a desktop. i read problems with people returning their hp because of quality issues and getting another one that have other issues. how often does this happen and how many here had this problem?
random question... some people were mentioning some kind of new AMD thing. i know that sandy bridge just came out not that long ago. how does it compare to the AMD? -
Quality issues happen with every manufacturer.
Internet Explorer is a bad browser, try Chrome or Firefox. -

Internet Explorer 9 is not a bad browser. Things have changed. In fact, in many ways it is *better* than Chrome or Firefox. It has the best GPU acceleration of all browsers, for instance.

I run both platforms and have for a couple years, before that I was purely Apple for 20+ years.
MBP 13" compared to the gateway on special at Walmart, yes it is very well built comparatively. MBP compared to a midrange ASUS business class, about the same but with crappier warranty. MBP vs a high end laptop such as a m6400 or an elitebook, Toughbook etc. the MBP is far behind.
you have to remember that MB/MBPS are a very LIMITED number of models from one manufacturer and where the general PC market ranges from netbooks for 9 year olds to low end walmart and bestbuy models all the way to the other extreme of Toughbooks which can bounce .22 shells off of them and be left in a rainstorm playing a DVD all night. As well as business class models so well built with fantastic cooling and rigidity they outright make my MBP 17" and 13" etc look like china dolls. -
He's probably not. -
Do you see what I'm saying?
MBPs are well made compared to other consumer grade laptops. It is absurd to compare them to an M6400 or a Toughbook. -
Google chrome has the simplest layout to maximize realestate and pays attention to DPI scaling (when you turn it <100% through regedit.exe) It also has the best source code viewer ("Inspect Element") but the javascript engine utterly sucks:
1) because it's inefficient when running functions that use setTimeout() recursion (such as timers)
2) because if you were to type a javascript in the URL bar and hit enter, it completely disappears and reverts back to the Webpage URL - making Google Chrome the worst browser to test out javascript code in.
Firefox is the most memory efficient (in many cases), but completely ignores DPI scaling. -
Just to let everyone know, I used a Macbook for about a week when I was editing for a video project (lent for assignment) and I have so say the one thing I hated about it is that it would get hot really really quick, and the unibody-aluminum conducted it everywhere. I started putting it on a desk (even surfing the net during research). That's when I noticed (seems obvious now) that there are no "dedicated vents" on the MBP. The joint between the Monitor and body is where it exhausts but it's not enough. Imagine a quad-core in there. With a 6770m or equivalent, no way it's can run cool.
My laptop now (if on the integrated) runs as cool as can be, but obviously when I'm playing intese games on the 6770m it gets hot too. But that makes sense. -
how to convince parents
