    I have a Compaq V2035.
AFAIK, the Celeron M processor (350) on which it is based can throttle itself down t lower clock speeds while running on batteries (but cannot enter deep sleep unlike a Pentium M )

However, I was unable to find any settings in the power applet to enable this.
Are there ny third party apps/tools which will enable me to do this (i.e to make the processor slow itself don to say 600mhx when running on batteries and while the processor is on a low load)

Nope, not possible. The Celeron M does not have Speedstep or the deep sleep modes. This is the only way to dynamically alter the clock speed. It will run at max clock speed 24/7.

What you're referring to is "Speed Stepping" - meaning the CPU will throttle down to conserve battery life. Celeron-Ms do NOT have this feature and this is why I chose a Pentium-M instead. That said..a friend of mine has a Celeron-M Inspiron 2200 and battery life still seems fairly good.
