Hard drives are not supposed to click. If it's clicking, something's wrong and you should quickly back up all the data.

experienced the same problem with my dv6000t when I first got it...
I think this is how I solved it....

Step 1. - Pick up your laptop

Step 2. - Shake it well

Step 3. - Put it back down

it may or may not work on yours, but I've not heard that dreadful noise ever since...
    Rock on...

Some hard drives load and unload the hard drive head to save power. This can often resemble a subtle click noise. That would be normal operation.

Here's how the folks on the Dell forum have gotten rid of the HD clicking on their new Inspirons/Vostros:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=168425

My Compaq doesn't make the noise, so I haven't tried playing with the programs they mentioned. Proceed with caution - but as someone else mentioned here, it's probably the HD parking that makes the clicking, not a hardware failure. I only read the first page of the Dell thread - you might want to dig further in to make sure people don't report new problems after solving the clicking.

Let us know if you try this and if it works.

You can not get rid of that click. You need to back up all your stuff and either call HP for a new one or buy a new hd and install it
