My dv2000t's fan kicks in under heavy load.

Is there any way that I can monitor fan speed?

    another question is:

can I lock the CPU frequency at 1GHz (it is a T7200) and thus reduce the temperature?

Google a program called SpeedFan and download it. It should allow you to monitor the fan speed. I am not sure about your other question.

AFAIK there aren't any utilities which can control the fan speed on any HP laptop.

The easiest way to control the cock speed to 1GHz is to set your power scheme to 'Max Battery'. This should force the processor to run at its lowest multiplier always. Alternatively you can use RM Clock or NHC to do the same plus they also allow you to under volt the cpu if you want to decrease the heat output further.

Will speedfan not monitor the fan speed on HP notebooks? I though it would, but maybe not.

I haven't heard of it being able to control the fan speeds. There was a post sometime back about a way to get NHC to work after some modifications. But none of the programs natively support controlling the fans.

Hmm...I am not sure either. I know I can get it to work on my desktop. On my laptop I use 19kfangui, unfortunately it is a Dell only program, but it does control fans speeds.
