    Hi,

I bought a new HP dv6000t and burned all three recovery DVDs.

Now, I have two hard drives shown in "MY COMPUTER", One is local disk (C: 61.9 G), the other is HP_REVOVERY (D: 11.5 G).

However, I can not partition the hard drive C. I searched on the forum but can not find a thread that can solve this.

I hope you can give me some good suggestions.

    Thanks.

I deleted recovery partition and quickplay (in your case, you may want to keep quickplay)

    and then give:

    20G to winxp c:
    20G to linux
    rest to other files

It all depends on your own needs ;-)

I am not exactly sure what you are trying to accomplish...Do you want to delete that recovery partition now?

If so, you can open up disk management in xp and just format that partion.

If you want to resize a partition, like get rid of it completely and give that space back to C:, you will need a program like partition magic.

that program will let you do whatever the hell you want. make an image of a parition, do a direct copy from hd to hd. resize, delete format. it a very powerful program that i'm sure every one here will recommend.

The recovery DVD is only the image file for the disk. Ask HP for the recovery CD which include the OS(OEM version) and the driver. You may have to escalate the case to the Quality Case Manager to get the CD. Use Gparted to re-partition the HD if you do not want to clean install the system.

If thats the case then i wouldnt even bother wasting a DVD for the image.
i would just make a copy of your SWsetup folder so you have all of your drivers and stuff and do a nice clean install with an xp cd.
I bet the disc you would buy from HP probably has the same ridiculous amount of crapware that the notebook did brand new.

I ordered the recovery CD from HP when I got my laptop. Would I be ok if I just go ahead and format the recovery partition? I am trying to free up more space on my HD.

2nd question: if it's OK and I go ahead and format the recovery partition, how do I merge that space to my C: drive?

Thanks in advance for the help.

You definitely dont need the recovery partition after you get the on discs.
If you have that program i told you about, you can merge all that space with your C: drive if you wish. or you can create new partitions in whatever size you want for whatever you need it for.

I personally have partitions on my main 7200 rpm drive.

C: Drive for XP 30 GB
Z: for storage, that takes up the rest of the space.

then, on my stock 5400 rpm drive, i have 3 partitions.

C: Vista, Ubuntu Linux, and Mac OS X86 :)

    all created with partition magic.

Before you can partition your drive, you have to open up Command Prompt (start, Run, type "cmd") and then type in "chkdsk c: /f"

It will ask you to restart your computer, then it will unlock your drive allowing you to partition.

THen you need to use a program like Paritition Magic

    check the manual
    .....
Deleting the Recovery Partition on the Hard Drive
The PC Recovery Advanced Options menu provides the option of
deleting the recovery partition, which will increase space on the
hard drive. Delete the recovery partition only if you have already
    created recovery discs.
ÄCAUTION: After you create the recovery discs, you can increase space
on the hard drive by deleting the recovery partition. However, doing this
is not recommended. If you delete this partition, you will lose any
information that is on the partition, including the PC Recovery software.
Thereafter, you must use the recovery discs to access PC Recovery
    software.
    To delete the recovery partition:
    1. If you have not already created recovery discs, create
    them now.
    2. Select Start > All Programs > System Recovery >
    PC Recovery.
    The PC Recovery tool opens.
    3. Select PC Recovery and click Next.
The computer restarts and the PC Recovery tools opens.
    4. Click OK.
    5. At the System Recovery screen, click Advanced Options.
    6. Select Delete Recovery Partition (not recommended) and
    follow the on-screen instructions.

I did that and use the Gparted to re-partition the HD to two(50/30). No chkdsk. No reinstall system. I will do a clean install with the Vista.

    C:\WINDOWS\CREATOR\RPRemoval.exe

    READ THE **** MANUAL.

    Hi, guys,

Here we go. Formatted the recovery disk and merged into primary disk and then partitioned into three different local disks. All these are done through Partition Magic 8. Amazing software.

Anyway, thanks for all your good suggestions. I love this forum.

Hey bro! I've been having the same dilemma as you. My dv2000t came w/ vista home premium and its also got the stupid D: Recovery partition. I've tried every app out there to create another partition from C: but no luck. so im wondering:

    1. how you were able to get Patition Magic 8.0 work since your OS was Vista which defintely aint compatible w/ Vista in any form.

    2. did you create a backup of that D: Recovery or you had recovery dvds like you mentioned. What is the difference between the two.

I wish i didnt pick vista. I cant run any of my architectural appz. not even sketch up :( need HELP Bad. i was just going to delete the D: and say to HELL with HP for doing sum stupid like that.
