I find this on every HP I buy. You can't remove it from Add/remove programs. I can uninstall the 'Frontend' piece, but not this. Normally I can dig through the reigstry and find out what the uninstall string is, but not for this one. I've stripped out all the bloatware but this one and the laptop runs great....but I'd love to rid myself of this last piece.

i can carve it out like that, i was just hoping someone knew of a hidden uninstaller for it that properly removed it. it ticks me off that HP would stick in bloatware like that with no way of removal.

No easy answer I know of. The registry entries should be found with minimal false positives by using "easy" as a search argument. There may be some false positives in Roxio if you have that, though.

Not a problem for people who reformat and start over with XP and Vista.

True enough. I will probably buy my own copy (non-OEM) of Vista after SP1 is out and reinstall a clean copy, even though I've taken the steps to get an almost clean copy already.

the recovery discs from HP do not give you the choice to skip the bloatware install like they used to. I did a wipe of the system as soon as I got it but it rebuilt everything back just the way it was.

bud, what did I just say? The recovery discs don't give you that option! On my old zv5000 I could do this, but no longer!

If your laptop came with "Vista Upgrade Anytime" DVD, then you can very easily do the clean Vista install by following the instruction:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=120228

If you don't have the DVD, you can get it or order from CompUSA for $5.

The instruction worked perfectly for my HP 12.1" tx1120us. It should work for any HP laptops that came with factory installed Vista OS.

Like I said, you can get Anytime Upgrade from CompUSA for $5. You may have to order.

What version Vista OS was factory installed on your Laptop? For example, if it came with Home Premium and you already have OEM or retail version of Vista Home Premium DVD, you can still do clean Vista install without re-activating from Microsoft.

I read lately Anytime Upgrade disk may no longer come with laptop to save manufacturer's cost.

I think the reason I don't have an Anytime Upgrade is because my laptop CAME with Vista Ultimate 64-bit....cant really upgrade beyond that.

Bring up the run command and paste this string into it the command box to uninstall hp easy setup - core:

    RunDll32 C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\INSTAL~1\PROFES~1\RunTime\11\00\Intel32\Ctor.dll,LaunchSetup "C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{F94234DB-FD06-42C3-B88D-6FC4DC9F988C}\setup.exe" -l0x9
