I have found that to maintain switchable graphics AND update drivers...

First, make sure you have the most up to date drivers for the Envy 173D from HP:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...xxx-dv7-5xxx-dv7-6xxx-envy-17-2xxx-intel.html

    Halfway down the page...8.820

    Install them...

Now, you can update to Mobility HD Catalyst 11.8 by downloading here:

    AMD Catalyst 11.8 WHQL (8.881 July 28) - Download & Discussion - Guru3D.com Forums

Install the 11.8's BUT...during the install...choose CUSTOM install. Choose everything EXCEPT Catalyst Control Center. By keeping CCC from the HP drivers, you keep the ability to maintain switchable graphics AND have it work properly. Again...everything except CCC.

When done, you will see drivers 8.881 and everything should work properly. Just make sure that refresh rate for the AMD Radeon is 120 HZ after the install, or your 3D shutter glasses and TriDef might not work...

Hrmm that didnt work for me, ive done exactly as you have listed, but its still showing the old HP driver as 8.820.5.1000.

Well I used the drivers from the amd site, not from guru3D, i assume theyre non modded standard drivers?
