    Hi everyone,
    my problem goes as follows:
i own 3 hp laptops, one is 6730s with low specification:
intel celeron 2G., 1G. ram, 160G. Hard, and intel graphics.

few weeks ago i noticed some of my videos hang up and cause total crash.
first it didn't concern me much, i though it is just software problem.
    but yesterday i tried to solve the problem;
first thing i do is to reinstall media playback software, but the problem persist, i even tried different software without success.
then i suspect driver problem, so i wen to hp site and downloaded latest intel graphic driver and again no luck.
i decided to reinstall OS (Windows XP Professional SP3 clean install), everything went O.K. and i update many drivers including BIOS, then i installed media player and firstly it went well be after a while to problem arise again!!
the only way to get video playback normally is to go to advanced display setting and minimize hardware acceleration to disable 3D acceleration. what surprise me is games run O.K. at maximum hardware acceleration.

I'm open to any suggestions, anyone had this problem before??

    I appreciate your reply.

when you say "clean install" of windows xp pro sp3" are you meaning your using a WinXP Pro sliptreamed/integrated with SP3?

    here is my suggestion:

factory restore (backup files if needed)
    disable antivirus - if any
uninstall unwanted programs - restart afterwards
    install media player - restart
    install sp3 - restart
    update windows - restart
install codecs or what ever you use.

my friend had problems with windows media player 10 & 11, KMPlayer, Winamp and Foobar after he integrated winxp with sp3. after doing the above all worked.

    goodluck.

my laptop came without OS (no factory restore)
Yes i used WinXp integrated with SP3.
my previous OS was WinXp SP2 upgraded to SP3
on previous installation i used Avira free edition, on new installation i used Avast free edition.
i uninstalled and reinstalled Classic media player and codec and tried power DVD and windows Media player = same problem.
Do u think it is SP3 problem?!

Try Media Player Classic, or MPlayer.

I'd suspect a bad chipset in that case. Gonna need a new mobo...

With China, anything is possible. :D My friend has an Asus AM2 mobo that got busted, it'll even boot to windows but displays NOTHING on screen, no matter what video card is used (not even old PCI!). No beeps no nothing, however it does beep if the video card is removed... So i've seen my share of weird failures too.
