I have installed 64 bit vista... when I opened first time notebook it asked me to choose 32 or 64. I wanted to try 64 bit, and I have installed it. Now i wanted to go for 32 bit. I have tried to go to factory default option with HP Recovery, but it switched me back to state when 64bit Vista is installed for first time on my notebook. How I can go back to the first question "32 bit or 64 bit" and then install 32 bit version?

You can't unless your laptop came with recovery cds for both 64bit and 32bit.

I have the same problems, it's vista business.

When you run the recovery it does not give you the option to switch back, just stays at 64 bit.

I need to know how to do this also

Does your disk say Vista Business 32 or 64? The disks I have say 32bit and another that says 64bit. If you have only one, try using the wipe option in the BIOS to low level format the drive before running the recovery disk. Just back up your key first.

You guys should have received two recovery disks for Vista, one 32 and one 64 bit. Just use the 32 bit one :)

If you didn't...call up HP and complain, because I got both!

I didn't got disks at all... I'll call HP to check hwere are my disks :) Anyway, when I get 32 bit disk, what happens to HP Recovery partition? It is still 64 bit from first installaion? or it will be replaced with 32 bit version with installation of new 32 bit Vista?

I have no idea about the recovery partition, sorry :( I wiped mine as soon as I got my 8510p, as I had(have) the 32/64bit recovery DVDs.

I remember someone saying something about certain countries not getting the recovery DVDs, but I dunno, I'm not sure if those claims were ever verified.

I would assume that whatever recovery cd you run would overwrite what is there so you could recover with that version.

I have one hdd that I bought seperately to do a clean install of Vista 32 bit and the HP hdd I used for the preloaded 64bit version, so I have not yet tried wipping it. All I know is it took longer to run the setup for the HP preload than it did for me to do a clean install [IMG]

Hi all. I bought my 8510w here in Norway, but it did not include any CD's/DVD's. I contacted support to get help to go from 32 to 64 bit and they told me that the recovery DVD I made should give me the possibility to do this. It didn't. I then called them again and some discs are now on the way. Don't know if it's only 64 bit or both.
Don't know if I will be using it now but it's nice to have the discs. I'm currently using XP and I'm happy! ;)
