I tried to upgrade my HDX18 - 1390eb from 2x 2GB to 2x 4GB RAM
but, it doesn't work
this is what I put in:
2x
Corsair CM3X4GSD1066 PC3-8500 4GB 7-7-7-20 204pin SODIMM
this is what was in the laptop original:
2x
Samsung 2GB SODIMM 1067Mhz 80ce (PC 3 8500)
what could be the problem?Code:# Processor # Front side bus / HyperTransport 1066 MHz # processorcache:6 MB # Processor model:Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000 # Processor-clockspeed:2.000 MHz # Processor:Intel Core 2 Quad running on: Windows 7 ultimate x64
I tried running it on 1 x 4GB , this worked.
I tried 1x 4GB and 1x 2GB , this didn't work
I allready tried taking out the battery and holding the on/off button 30sec. No succes.
The computer doesn't boot up at all when i put in the 8GB, black screen. but i can hear then fan blowing an the laptop makes start-up noises.

Failed because you used the wrong type of RAM. PC2-6400 is the type you need. Hopefully you didn't kill the controller.
See the service manual: http://www.scribd.com/doc/19192044/HP-HDX-18-1180CA-Service-Manual -
ok, thx for fast reply!
so, this one should work.
Corsair PC2-6400 Modules
VS4GBKIT800D2 PC2-6400 4GB Kit 5-5-5-18 240pin DIMM
just to be sure to get it right this time.
EDIT, the laptop is still working with the 2x 2GB without a problem, so i hope nothing is broken, or wouldn't i notice it at first?
EDIT 2 : PC2-6400, 800-MHz, DDR2 , is this much faster then 2x 2GB DDR3? -
Wrong type of RAM, wrong size. A 4GB kit is (2) 2GB sticks.
And it has to be 200 pin PC2-6400 DDR2 800 mhz RAM.
Like this: Newegg.com - CORSAIR 8GB (2 x 4GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Laptop Memory Model VS8GSDSKIT800D2 -
ok, thx allot
Is it going to improve allot over the 4GB DDR3? -
8GB RAM won't improve things unless you are maxing 4GB out. If you want a real kick in the pants, get an SSD. It will improve things quite a bit as far as the OS operations and read/write operations. Even boot time will be markedly improved.

i didn't know this was possible for a HDX18?
so i can upgrade this laptop with SSD?
if so, which model do you recommend? -
Is it possible to upgrade a HP HDX 18 1390eb with a SSD?
if so which models work / are advised? -
Basically any 2.5" SATA SSD such as OCZ's Vertex and Vertex 2 series or Intel X25-M G2 series. There's others that are cheaper. But these are the favorites around here.
Also see this thread for loads of info about the HDX 18: http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-envy-hdx/300221-official-hp-hdx18-owners-lounge.html -
Yeah, i started reading that thread, but 500+ pages is overkill
thx for the info, i'm going to invest in a SSD then i guess, better performance for the money!

Yep. Best way to go.
