Because for the past few years, the Nvidia chips have been failing.

Technically, there are no NVidia chipset notebooks available right now that have a Core i3/5/7 processor in them. However, there are several NVidia discrete graphics cards available on a variety of laptops.

In the 17" range, you'll have to go to the Elitebook line to get an NVidia GPU. There, most of them come with NVidia GPUs. You could also go with the HP DV8T, though, and get an NVidia GPU. It's an 18" chassis, though, and not metal finished.

In the windows world, NVidia has been lagging behind ATI lately with performance and power consumption (though it'll be interesting to see what happens when the lower power Fermi devices make it into laptops).

Nvidia was basically screwed when AMD bought ATI, bringing mainstream in-house chipsets into the AMD fold. As for Intel, premier notebooks almost always used Intel chipsets for power management/mobility advantages. Sometimes you would see budget Intel notebooks with Nvidia chipsets......
