Probably so. I like how no laptop got 3 stars for video editing. The 8000z got 2 for gaming while the 8000t got 3 for gaming. If HP were to put a nicer GPU in the 8000z then it would be good for gaming too. The comparison seems pretty much on par.

I'm not 100% but I think that sheet is comparing within its own respective line and not comparing HP vs Compaq.

As far as the dv2k and V3k being rated lower than their older counter parts... Makes no sense to me. Trying to get rid of inventory I guess... maybe?

Depending on what your looking to do that laptop should be a solid by for a great price.

Have you checked out the "What should I buy forum?" Many people will help you with conifigs based on your usage and budget.

Personally I'd recommend a CTO through Costco. They have a generous return policy which effectively allows you to buy the one you will likely be most happy with but... If you find its not on par with the performance you thought you were buying then you can exchange/return no Q's asked for 6 mos. (Please no flaming)

    For example:
I bought my HP DV2kt through Costco with a 12 cell advertised 8 hours and I'm consistently at 5 hours regardless of settings. I also have a slight bow in the keyboard near the arrow keys. So far I'm not returning it but, it is a very nice feeling knowing I have 6 mos to reach a final verdict.

    Hope that helps,

    Mike
