im trying to install Motherboard Monitor 5 (to monitor cpu temp, etc). the program is asking me what the motherboard is for my hp dv1000?

You wont be able to find info on the motherboards on most laptops. The MB on the dv1000 was most probably designed/built by Quanta and you wont see a listing for that in MBM5. If you want to monitor temperature & system settings then Centrino Hardware Control or Mobile Meter are known to be the most reliable.

How about Everist, would that provide the info?

Or try Notebook Hardware Control 1.09b. DV1000 may use different MB at different time. You better check yours. DV4000 is worse. They changed the MB, power supply, memory, video,.... and still use the same series number.
