My hp dv2000 has been crashing alot lately. i thought it might have been a temperature issue so i downloaded speedfan to see wat my temps were at but my hd temp is only 47 and cpu temp is only 58. any one have any other ideas why it might be crashing?

maybe certain driver incompatibility with Vista or XP.
your CPU temp. is quite high, mine stays at 41~45 during normal usage.
it can be a number of things ... did you receive any error reports upon restart after it has crashed?

how would a driver incompatibility cause a crash? cause it seems to be completely random, which is why i thought it was a temperature problem. but is 58 that out of the norm for a cpu?

I remember my old desktop with XP, and it had this integrated sound card on the Intel motherboard and the sound driver was "SoundMAX". From time to time I would get random crashes and blue screens, sometimes while playing games or opening a sound file. The sad part was that I couldn't update or reinstall the driver, so I had to do a total system restoration in order to solve the problem.

Anyway, my point is try to identify the problem at the source, especially with random crash problem and no error report or anything is provided. It could be certain driver is corrupted with memory leak that caused the crash, or CPU overheating... etc.

Hope this article can help you identify the problem:
