hi there, I'm having a problem with my laptop, It won't boot at all it just emits this really loud beep, but sometimes it will boot up and sometimes it won't and I don't know whats wrong with it. This all happened after I installed battlefield 2 which ran ok but then started jamming and thats when it started to not boot up.
any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
kind regards

Beep codes See if you can match your beeps with any of these. Plus try to do a restore.

aw thats what they beeps are... I've looked all down the page and couldn't find my beep pattern. I have 1 long beep followed by 2 short beeps and i'm definately sure its a phoenix BIOS. But I've emailed hp support to try and get a definition for the beeps and see what they say. thanks for the info S_P_Q_R, really useful.

ah, crap, mine isn't on the list, I had no idea there were so many defective chipsets. Well I'll hang onto my doorstop for the moment and see if HP change their policy.
thanks for all the replies, you've been a great help.

I had the same problem before, dv9207us, a broken connection of NVIDIA GPU due to poor manufacturing process. HP quoted for $400 for motherboard replacement. Instead sending it to HP, I reflowed the motherboad using heat gun. It was risky but it works!

In the future this problem may occurred again, hopefully more than a year.
The main problem is the solder joint material that do NOT withstand the fatigue cracking under thermal stress (--> this is just my personal opinion without any scientific evidence).
For those who has any interest to reflow the motherboard, I used this guide,
