    Hey guys,
I tried posting in the dv4t owners thread and haven't got a reply yet so I'll just make a thread :3

Anyhoo, I just got a hp dv4t and I removed a bunch of the hp bloatware it came
with, and did the tweaks in Les' guide, but I still get some strange performance
    issues.

Firstly, The computer boots up fairly quick, usually under 45secs but after I login, then it locks up for a few minutes and it won't connect to the internet
and I can't change the battery options in the task bar. Usually after a couple minutes I just open up a firefox browser and it'll eventually connect even though the little icon won't say its connected for another minute or so. It doesn't really seem I can do any window's specifc task during this lock up time but other apps appear to work okay. Performance after the lockup is fine and quick.

The other issue is that my wireless signal drops sometimes and the card
appears to turn itself off. I'm not able to turn it back on either even after
restarting, so I end up having to remove and reinstall the driver for it. It's happened twice so far, so I just updated the driver for it from the hp site
and it seems okay for now.

Any help on these issues will be appreciated :)

    Here's my current specs btw:
    HP dv4t
Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit sp1
    Intel core 2 duo P7350
    2.0GB Ram
    512MB NVidia Geforce 9200m GS
    320GB 5400rpm Fujitsu hdd
    Intel wifi link 5100 agn
    running bios F14

Go to start menu and type msconfig. Then go to startup. See if any unnecessary programs are starting up.

already tried disabling all/most of the start-up programs
    and that didn't help.

Another thing I noticed though is that I don't seem to get this issue in
    safe-more w/networking at least/

Since when are you having this problem? And when did you buy your laptop?

Well I noticed this immediately after I received my laptop, which was about a week ago. I figured uninstalling some stuff and doing the tweaks would've helped. Only thing I haven't tried really is a clean install. I bought the laptop new from HP for about $800 a couple weeks ago.

Sometimes this slowdown problem happens after you upgrade your existing Vista install to SP1 via Windows Update. But within a week, it tracks your user behavior and optimizes the OS. This process normally takes a week or so but then returns back to normal. To me it seems that there might be some problem with either explorer.exe,dwm.exe or either one of those impertinent svchost.exe thread. Also try to disable Windows Search by typing services.msc in the start menu. Don't forget to ditch the HP bloatware stuff. You can also try running a disk check on Drive C which will sort out any HDD problems if any.

I think you may be right about the Vista slowdown. I'm noticing it is starting
to get faster after start-up so the problem might just fix itself after enough reboots. Thanks a lot for the info :)
