Hi all, sorry in advance if my english is not good!!![]()
I own an hp dv5 1010 el.
The notebook, that i bought last novembe,r has the "whine "problem.I tried updating bios to the latest version, but the wine is still there. It's more noticeable when the computer is idle and it increases when the notebook is unplugged from ac and works only on battery.
it is like a high -pitched sound coming from below the keyboard.
It's not a loud noise, you can hear it only in silent rooms or by placing your hear near the keyboard.
So the question is: is this a known hpdv5 problem and it doesn't affect the computer hardware or the notebook normal functioning, that means that i can accept the whine and keep the notebook as it is?or do you think the "whine"is a problem and i have to call hp for a replacement ,repair.
Thanks for the help and sorry again for the bad english![]()

It is the CPU making the noise when it is on idle/sleep state.
I suggest you call up HP and see what their solution for this
This used to happen on the older dv2000 models and also on Dell Notebooks. -
I had this problem on my old HP dv6000 notebook. It is a well known problem and there is a long discussion regarding this problem on this forum.
It is very difficult to eliminate it but there are some solutions that helped some users but not all of them.
Generally speaking you have to keep your notebook "busy", so that it doesn't go in idle/power saving state.I solved this problem by just connecting 2-3 external devices on the USB ports. That keeps the USB ports always in the power on state preventing them to power off.Keeping the notebook connected in internet and navigating helped too because prevented the CPU to go on the C4 power saving state.
Some users used a program called RMClock that allows you to specify the power states that the CPU should work.I never used it, so if you choose to give it a try, I recommend reading the "whine" discussion for the dv6000.I can't remember the exact link at this moment but it should be easy to find.
