    Hi,

This thread is for 3rd party and/or hp parts. There is almost no information on the internet. Many people seem to buy the dv7 with only 1 hard drive (in fact, in some countries there are only versions with 1 hard drive) and leave the space empty.

The second hd caddy is pre-installed, so one would only need 4 screws and the correct cable.

This thread is for those who don't want to waste that extra space. Imo a second hdd is crucial if using a ssd as a primary device.

I understand there is an original hp part? Are there any alternatives yet? I asked newmodeus.com, but haven't heard from them since except that they intend to offer a cable at some point.

Is this what your looking for? (I donno this seller and I apologize if its against the rules to post ebay links) -- HP Pavilion DV7 series SATA HDD CABLE CONNECTOR ADAPTER | eBay

If its not, we'd need the exact model of your computer to determine the HP Part Number. You can under it in here HP PartSurfer and your looking for the description
"Hard drive hardware kit - Includes mounting rails, e-SATA interface cable, and mounting screws"

Just google the part number and it'll pop up places.

    I'm really interested too..

Yesterday I bought a DV7-6090EL in Italy. Here this model have only 1 HD Toshiba 620GB @ 5400 rpm. So the second caddy is empty.. and there is not the SATA Cable!! I'm really pissed off.. why HP doesn't let the cable within the NB???

Browsing on internet the only info I've found is in this shop (don't know if I can post the link...)
    2nd HDD Caddy & Cable for HP dv7-4000, dv7-5000, dv7t SE, dv7tQE [HP-dv7-4000] - $38.55 : NewmodeUS, Hard Drive Caddys for Notebooks

    Here the description say :
"note that this is not compatible with the dv7t-6000 Series / dv7t-6000 Quad Edition Series"

    And that's all... unbelievable!

The problem is that this cable is too long! Probably also the one in the link above si too short to be useful with dv7-6000,and so is not compatible.

Let me know if someone find a solution...

I also have the dv7 6000. Was told they (HP) have the kit available and in stock. Ordered it 2 weeks ago.. They keep changing the shipping date.
Guess I should have ordered 2 laptops. One with 2 hard drives and the other with one and sent back the one with 2 and borrow the cable from it. Maybe that is what I will do anyway!!

Good luck getting this kit from HP. I purchased mine on April 12th. Delayed twice and now that I was supposed to finally have it on May 13th, just got another call that it is delayed until May 30th. This is ridiculous. Anyone else gotten a delay that received any discounts because of the delay?

When I ordered my dv7tqe I ordered it with only one hard drive, as I use a SSD for my primary drive. I was PISSED to find out they included the caddy, but no connector cable for the drive. Just stupid and cheap.

I called HP and complained. I told them the cable was missing from my computer. I had the part number ready for the hard drive connector kit (even though I already have the caddy, you can't order the cable by itself). I basically told them they needed to comp me the cable or kit or I was going to return the laptop on principle.

By the way....it took me over an hour on the phone to get this done. HP's overseas call centers suck balls. It was only after they had a US based supervisor call me back the following day that this was finally resolved.

So.....order placed 4/29/11, and was just advised for the second time of shipping delay, now the expected delivery date is 6/1/11. It's no wonder that HP's earnings are down. I won't buy HP again because their customer service sucks. In this day and age it's unacceptable to be unable to give accurate delivery dates for both my original laptop and now the drive cable.

newmodues said they'd provide me with an eta on the cables but they didn't answer.

maybe someone else write them an email about this topic? make them realise there's a lot of people interested

Got an e-mail today saying shipped today overnight, expected tomorrow. And, perhaps it was a coincidence, but yesterday HP sent me a customer service survey in which I flamed them pretty severely (at least in the 500 characters they gave me...could have written a couple thousand easy).

DO NOT TAKE THIS BS. CALL HP AND COMPLAIN, AND DEMAND YOUR SECOND HARD DRIVE CABLE BE COMPED.

A little good news for the ones who want to add a second hard drive in the dv7. Newmodeus is now offering just the sata cable for $28.95 + $6.90 shipping. They currently it on backorder til 7 JUNE. I know this is an expensive price for a cable. I'm sure within 6 months, it will be at least half price. Got to get mines now, because I want to use my 1TB for internal storage.

Got my cable from HP last week. Works fine. I had to scrounge for HD mounting screws, but now have my 640 and my old 500 both mounted in my DV7T. :)

    Hello,

how long the second SATA cable has to be, in order to fit in the space?

If it is too long it will not fit, if it is long as the first SATA cable it will not be enough.

    Can you please help me?

    Thank you in advance.
