Just bought a new hp dv9000 laptop with blue ray and hdmi and nvidia 8400gs. I have a hitachi hdtv that is capable of 1080i,not 1080p but I'm trying to watch blue ray on it without success. For one, audio isn't sent to the television through the hdmi, and I can't seem to get a 1080i signal to it, I can only get a signal with odd laptop resolutions.
Basically I just want to watch blue ray in 1080i on it with audio. I can get the video to play but it isn't a 1080i resolution being sent to he television it's like 1440x900 or such.

    any help is greatly appreciated

The TV might not support interlaced resolutions, or just not 1080i. Check the manual.

Also, as far as I know HDMI connections on the laptops do not carry audio...but I could be wrong on that.

hi Greg, I know it supports 720p and 1080i as I have used both for gaming and satellite, I'm just not sure how to set it up on the laptop within the display properties to output at 1080i

Audio is sent to the TV through HDMI, but this isnt done through the video card, make sure the HDMI sound driver is installed, and select the HDMI device for sound out from the multimedia settings.

your probably getting 1440*900 as thats what your screen will do, have you tried resetting the res on the display? i have to do this on mine, or goto the advanced option on the Nvidia display centre, and change the scaleing, when you move it down, it will enlarge the image, and fill the screen with it, sorta like when you zoom in on an image, but as suggested before check the TV settings, sometimes you have to set the phase, and the resoltion on a DVI-HDMI input

What are you using to play the Bluray? is it PowerDVD7?

To enable audio through HDMI, you will have to set SPDIF Digital out as the default device.

Right click the sound icon in the system tray then Playback devices

Right click SPDIF/Digital Out > Set as default device

Right click again and click Test. Sound should now come out of the TV. Restart whatever media player you were using.
