I have a HP dv9235nv and whenever I put it in hibernate, it seems to wake up by itself after several hours. Anyone have ay idea what's going on or how to fix it?

MCE is burning you...that is if you have configured the guide. I believe by default it updates nightly at around 3AM. Review the EVENT log to see what is waking your puter up. What I did to resolve "this" issues was to turn off the Automatic Guide download. I update the guide manually once a week or so. You can also look for the 3rd party program that will change the update time to your choosing...like in the afternoon or evening. I can find that program if you are interested.

Of course, if you don't use the guide it may be something else...but still review the EVENT log. It may offer some valuable information as to what is going on in the middle of the night.

Hey thanks, I went into windows media center and turned off automatic updates, hopefully that will fix the problem.

Is it really an issue to be fixed? Seems to me that if you have it configured to do updates and it wakes up the computer to do them it's worked as designed. Putting your computer to sleep is not the same thing as shutting it off.

I guess I have an issue with a LAPTOP coming out of hibernation to fulfill an unfulfillable task. Typically when I hibernate, I am also not plugged into power and the network. The last thing that I want is the laptop waking up chewing up my precious battery.

    Regards,
    Mick

So why not set your laptop when on battery to re-enter sleep after 5, maybe 10 minutes, and then after that go into hibernation after another 20? Should minimize battery usage. I see where you are coming from however. Seems like Windows should have the option to put all wake up events on hold if desired. Usually things are smart about when a computer is on battery vs plugged in with that stuff.

Hey guys - you can also check the Event Log(not sure where this is at in Vista - Yet) and you will typically see activity at the time that the puter turns on. Hopefully this may clue you in to what is want to run when woken up.
