HP website doesn't show audio drivers for your system in windows xp, only for vista so probably you don't need to download any. Check the device manager to see if everything installed correctly under "sound, video and game controllers"

Go to Device Manager and delete the audio driver. Then install this:

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...=ob-42884-1&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&dlc=en&lang=en

If that doesn't work, go back further:

    http://h10061.www1.hp.com/ccsearch/...en&dlc=en&sni=&search=0&submit.x=2&submit.y=7

These are the generic Conexant HD Audio Drivers - check the listing make sure XP is included. This has worked for other people who have downgraded to XP.

just download a linux livecd, then you can test the audio under linux without having to install anything and make sure it works
