Hi There, i have an Envy 14, and when woken up from sleep mode (ie opening the lid after being in sleep mode) the dvd drive makes a noise like it is trying to boot from the drive, even when the drive is empty.

Does anyone know how to stop the notebook trying to access the dvd drive after sleeping?

When I close my Envy while i'm on battery it will suspend to ram for 4 hours and then suspend to disk. To change the suspend state my Envy wakes up (DVD drive noise and HP logo lights up while beeing closed) and then goes into suspend to disk. I'd suggest that you check your Power Settings.

Hi Polluxus, thanks for your reply. The dvd noise is actually when the lid is re-opened, not when it is closed (I jut corrected my wording the last post). I couldn't find any power option that relates to 'wake up' settings & dvd drives...I might be missing something though...

I don't think there is much to do ... It's the same for me. Wake up and DVD noise come together. I guess that the drive checks whether there is a DVD inserted or not thus it has to "power up" creating the noise. As there aren't many laptops with slot-in drives I can't really say if its common or not.
