this morning as i was getting off the subway somebody jostled my laptop around and caused the bag to collide into the wall. after getting to work i opened it up to find that the screen isn't working properly and is displaying (stupid pun) the same symptoms that this guy was experiencing however long ago.

essentially what happens is that when the laptop is turned on, it powers up and briefly displays a blue screen. after displaying the blue screen it flickers (briefly) with the standard hp startup screen and logo. it then goes black for a few moments before going blue again and displaying the windows onload animation with a fully functional mouse cursor and accompanying animations. its to be noted that the mouse is once again fully usable and responsive in all areas of the screen.

after windows loads however, my screen goes blank again and the pc continues to run. inserting an sd card into the slot produces the windows recognition sound byte.

going into bios and safe mode produces the same result. working pc up to the screen (the screen seems fine, i didnt see any cracks in it).

hp wants 350 to send it in and fix it. and id assume other repair outfits are similarly priced.

does anybody know if this could potentially just be a loose video card? whatre the odds of that? or is this a more general hardware failure that requires part replacement.

any help would be greatly appreciated.
