i am looking to get the hp hdx 16t and was wondering if there is any bg difference between getting the 2.53 (P9400 i think) or the 2.66 processor? Is it worth the upgrade or no?
-
You probably can't tell the difference in real life applications, but the price difference is nominal, then I'd go with the 2.66Ghz.
-
would this be a good configuration for school type stuff, internet, and moderate to high gaming? also will vista really slow down the notebook that much? should i go back to XP? thanks.

That is a very good configuration. I would even argue that a cheaper CPU would do the job just as well.
And no, Vista should be fine. Vista 64-bit will allow you to use all 4 GB of your RAM. -
thanks for the input, can't wait to get it.
-
so after that configuration i noticed you can get 30% off now. does hp have that very often? also should i take advantage of that to upgrade even more? if so what should i upgrade?
-
Yes! Use Coupon Now!
-
how often do they have those though? i noticed it about a month ago also. is this a monthly coupon?
-
Since I've been checking in September, it almost seems montly. But you never know when the economy/laptop sales will pick up and they'll stop putting them out.
-
so with that coupon is an upgrade to 6GB ram DDR2 and core 2 duo 2.93ghz processor in the above configuration even worth it? do i need to upgrade to what i just said. all's i am doing is school work(engineering stuff), internet, and moderate to high amount of gaming. what's your opinion?
-
Your needs probably dont need 6GB of RAM. The only thing that might need it are your engineering apps. Even so, 6GB probably would be overkill. But you can double check what apps youre planning on using to see what they require.
As far as pricing goes, the t9800 runs from $300 - $500 around the interweb, so %30 off the 450 HP is charging is pretty close to the best price youll get that anywhere. As far as the RAM goes %30 off the $200 is also pretty close to or better than the best price youll find a single 4GB stick of RAM, so 6GB at that price sounds good to me. For a comparison, this is the best price I've found for two 4GB sticks of DDR2: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226047. -
so go for the processor upgrade because of the good price, but not the ram cause it is sort of overkill, i will check the apps i will be using in engineering major to see what i might need and post it here. it looks like 4GB would probably be enough. the min they require is 1GB ram, but they strongly suggest exceeding this minimum.

Well in the end that would be totally up to you. The processor is a good price compared to the price you get it from any other retailer. But if you dont need that speed, which is very often not even noticeable in real world situations anyway, then you dont even need to spend that money. It MAY come in handy in the future, but so can Quad Core. Also, it MAY not even matter in the future. No one really knows. Future proofing is an expensive habit.
Also, at this point in time, 4GB is almost always all you need. In the future, you can upgrade to the 8GB, which will eventually end up being the price of the 6GB you were going to get now. So you really dont have to worry about it now unless your one of the select few to actually need all that RAM. Or if you want that future proofing I was speaking of. -
that makes sense. thanks for the help.
