I know for a fact that dell loads a bunch of crap on their computers and most people suggest a reformat. They also split the hd into 2 drives, 1 for backup so it really takes a huge chunk out of ur total storage. I was wondering if hp also installs alot of junk software or not. I just ordered my hp today and I dont know how to reformat a computer yet. do you guys know any good tutorials on how to reformat/install windows?

Yup, hp installed a lot of junkware on your machine! Also, the restore D drive has almost 10Gb of your hdd.

Browse on the forums and there are reinstallation guides that helps.

yeah i just got a dv5000t. i ordered the 80gb drive and with the factory load my primary partition i think i had around 55gb of free space. there were actually 3 partitions on my computer. the primary os, the system restore and then a small 1 gb partition for quickplay.

i just did a format and reinstall. i left the 1gb partition so i could still use quickplay and joined the first two. i think now i have about 70gb of free space after i loaded office and my other programs.

As long as they allow me a way to remove the junk, I have no issues with the junkware installed. It does have a lots of trial software and other crap, particularly the Add/Remove program menu will be populated by lots and lots of rather stupid HP games. I hvae seen other manufacturers include more junk than HP, but since my previous Compaq the amount of junkware installed has definately increased.

I hope you ordered the $10 backup CD, since it is just a clean copy of Win XP and is probably the best way to reinstall your system. You can follow one of the reinstallation guides and do remember to create the back up discs and keep a copy of the all important SWSetup folder. Follow the instructions and you should be good to go.
