Ask HP for the recovery CD which include the OS(OEM version) and the driver. You may have to escalate the case to the Quality Case Manager to get the CD. Use Gparted to re-partition the HD if you do not want to reinstall the system.

Did you ever make the recovery DVD for the laptop? Start->Programs->HP Backup and Recovery Manager. You can use those to restore the notebook.

If you have already destroyed the recovery partition, you'll need to contact HP as bigzz said. Their techs should be able to get it to you for about $10.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the recovery discs only restore the image of the hard drive, as it came from the factory. I found this quite useless, as there was already software pre-installed on the system that I did not need nor want. I ended up doing a clean install of XP SP2 and making a recovery disc of that using Acronis.

I'm glad that I still have the XP SP2 OS disc that came with my NX8220. It's a shame that HP stopped shipping their business notebooks with the OS disc.

Yes, it does restore to the factory image. However, there really isn't much software at all...let alone what could be considered bloatware. I had to uninstall only two things on my nc8430 image...the rest was fine. Most of the software is in the SWSetup folder and you have to choose to run the installer.

I have the nc8430 too. i'm wondering, which two programs you had to uninstall. And which of the hp programs and utilities do you find necessary and useful?

i have 70 processes in my task manager and i want to decrease it for smoother performance.

one more question: Do you think the response rate of the WSXGA+ screen of NC8430 adequate? The videos seems to be a bit blurred at my screen. Did you experienced the same issue?
