the color of the line is i think, cyan?? hmm..

its a vertical line stretching from the top to the bottom of the display..

Sounds like it could be a graphics card issue.

Do you happen to know what type of graphics card the unit has?

Connect the laptop to an external monitor, if the line appears in the external monitor as well then its an issue with the graphics otherwise it might be flayed LCD cable or the display itself.

Try an external monitor. If the cyan line is not there, then it is a problem with your screen. If it is there on the external monitor, then it is most likely the 8400M GS (which is under a massive recall along with practically every other GeForce 8M and 9M series chip.

So that means that it is a problem with the LCD. If it is a row of blue pixels, then it is probably the panel. 3 years ago my high school issued Compaq nx6000 laptops to everybody for educational purposes. I put the laptop in the front pocket of my backpack (which was sorta heavy) and a few weeks later I had random black rows of dead pixels appearing in middle of the screen. The screen may have endured some pressure through the laptop lid and caused some solder joints to break, as some of the lines would disappear if I flexed the screen.
