I've noticed a slight crack and its not flush but nothing that concerns so much that I would return it just for that

The DVD tray button is impossible. I would just eject it from windows

I noticed that the DVD tray eject is more difficult than the other tray loaders I've used, but I definitely can open it just with my fingertip, no fingernail or pencil required.

I've found, with my dv7, that if I place my fingertip ON the dvd tray button and press the entire tray inward, the tray opens. It is not necessary to actually press the 'button' by itself.

This may be specific to the particular dvd brand in my dv7, but you may want to give it a try.

That was my experience as well. I was exaggerating a bit by saying it's impossible. It takes a couple of seconds to process the eject before it does it.

On my laptop that I returned with the blu ray writer it was really not that difficult to open just by pressing. Are people having problems with just the blue ray player or regular dvd drive?

    Kabi,
Doubt anyone monitors this thread but I can say EVERYTHING mentioned in this thread has happened with my machine. I never bought HPs because of build quality. I've never seen one that wasn't complete crap with regards to build quality. One had a component defect caused a recall but in general the other six machines were strictly the result of poor part design and assembly. I got my Dv6 as a Christmas present last year. Within a month seven of the keyboard decals had disappeared. I type a lot but not THAT MUCH. The metal trim has always cut my wrists a little after hours of typing. Now it's cracked so it's actually cutting my wrist. I need to get some Superglue or something. The DVD tray is another thing I quickly noticed. It's unlike any other DVD drive I've used. You have to be right on the button with a fingernail to get the door to open. All in all I will never buy or suggest an HP to anyone.

The silver lining is a bit strange at the optical drive. There's a wave in the material, but every other thing is fine. But if I lift it with only one hand on the optical drive's side its crackling badly.
