The switch, right next to that orange light, is it slid to the left (OFF) or to the right (ON)? The light should change to blue if the switch is slid to the right.

lol, yes i know that
but does anyone know of something that i might be able to do, like a d/l that i might get from a website that will get my computer to recognize that i have a wireless driver

Well, unlikely any download would fix this issue, considering you have already tried reinstalling Windows and the device is not being recognise. It might be that the switch is broken and stuck in the off position always or a larger motherboard issue.

I have the exact problem and have contacted HP to no avail. They told me to upgrade the BIOS and remove the network card and reseat it. I did this thinks and the light remains orange. If some one has any suggestions please add them.

Is your notebook model in this recall? http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...7277&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN

I am having virtually the same problems with a TX1260ea laptop with an AMD processor although, speaking to HPs UK Support Centre yesterday, I was clearly advised that the TX Series laptops are NOT INCLUDED in the list of units with the faulty nVidia GPU chips. They stated that TXs are not included because:
ONLY 2 or 3 out of 5 are experiencing the problem so... THEY PRESUMABLY REGARD THIS FAILURE RATE AS ACCEPTABLE!
I asked to speak to the support manager, but was put through to the complaints centre, where I was told categorically that I would have to pay for the repair and if I was not happy that I should call Trading Standards. The Trading Standards website ( www.tradingstandards.gov.uk) state the following:
Buying Goods - Your Rights
for England, Wales and Northern Ireland)
When you buy goods from a trader, you enter into a contract, which is controlled by many laws including, the Sale of Goods Act 1979 (as amended by the Sale and Supply of Goods Act 1994 and the Sale and Supply of Goods to Consumers Regulations 2002). The law gives you certain statutory rights, including that the goods are of satisfactory quality, as described and fit for their purpose. If things go wrong when you purchase goods, you may be entitled to ask for a full refund, compensation, or a repair or replacement. Any guarantee provided is extra to your rights under the Sale of Goods Act.
Whilst HP reminded me that my laptop is 2 months out of warranty, the Sale of Goods Act might suggest that the warranty is irrelevant if the goods were not of satisfactory quality in the first instance.
I WILL PURSUE THIS FURTHER WITH HP!
Petition HP about this problem at www.hpstolemymoney.com.
HP, if you care about your customers please, please do something! We care enough about HP to buy your products... so please care about your customers.
