Can someone help me with a problem with the mentioned laptop?
if I hit the power button, I hear the cooler spinning but the laptop doesn't start up.
the led on the shift lock button is flashing continously.
the led of the wireles is orange.
The powerled is white ( as the led next to the power button as the led next to the harddisk led in the side of the laptop)
the harddis led is orange
and the HP icon (back of the screen) is giving white light.
If I put the charger in the power jacket, the led next to the powerjack truns white then orange.
I read on the HP support that if the led on the shift lock and num lock is flashing , it could be a hardware faillure.
flashing one time should be the upc, twice, should be the BIOS is damaged, thrice, RAM memory problem, four times, Graphic controller doesn't work, five times: general error motherboard, six time, BIOS - verificationerror.
BUT I only have a shift lock led that is flashing continously, not once, not twice, not three times, four , fiven or six, but it just conintu to flash.
I
So I'm asking myself why HP doesn't tell what this flashing means?
I took out the battery, memory, battery, wirelles cables, nothing helps.
I resetted (pushing power button 30 sec), but no avail.
I managed to start the start-up test (F2) memory, smart check, short DST(what is this?) optimized DST are passed, but battery test need to be replaced( normal I think, batteries are weaking as time passes by).
faillure ID: QC6HV1-0004MN-XD003G-C0E303
PRODUCT ID: WZ018EA#UUG
Strange that this working, I will try to start the system, maybe it will work too?
run-in test: memory, smart check, short dst, optimized dst all passed. suddenly ends with a message that battery test failed, but this test was not mentioned in the list.
system tune-up test should take up to 4 hours. the first test is the battery but after a few seconds the test stops with the message that the system tune-up failed (only the battery was tested?)
bios date 06-04-2010 bos revision: F.07, maybe an update can help?
Strange, first time laptop booting up windows? maybe because I took out the cmos battery, pressed F2 , then I received a message about cmos reset or something then the bios screen opened.
strange... But I think it wil not boot up if next time...??
I took the time to test out the temperatures with Speccy application.
If system is idle , and I'm doing nothering, temperatures are ok (cpu: 48-52°C, motherboard: 50°C, ATI AMD M880G with ATI mobility Radeon HD 4250 (HP): 44°C, hard disk: 39°C)
If I open you tube (started with one and ended with 4 or 5 you tube movies playing), only temperature of the motherboard gets arround 60 -66°C.
the processor gets max 64°C
graphic:: 50°C - 56°C
hard disk 39°C-40°C
If i only play one you tube movie (realistic): motherboard 66°C, cpu 63°C, Grafic 54°C, harddisk 39°C.
it seems the laptop doesn't cool down that fast.
But if i close the you tube, after times the temperatures get low.
full image you tube: cpu: 57°C-59°C, motherboard: 59-62°C, graphic 49°C-53°C, harddisk 40°C
mostly its: cpu 57°C motherboard 59°C graphic: 53°C and hardisk 40°C
without you tube, juist opening google chrome several tabs (empty) and reading the news, the motherboard temperature manage to get 58°C°C , graphic is 50°C and cpu 56°C
I updated the wireless drivers, there was also an update for bios, I checked the bios info on HP but nothing usefull for my problem, even worse, one compliant that his laptop became very hot after bios update to F.29 (laptop has F.07).
Maybe I have to remove the dust? Buyt neighbour already went to a computershop they told him it was unfixable (motherboard related). Would the laptop start if the motherboard was the cause?
I think they already have tooken out the dust.
the Neighbour even told me that 4 months ago they replaced the motherboard, but same problem. As I read on internet, It could be a HP problem (structure of the laptop) or they have never replaced it?
He also told me that sometimes he manage to boot the laptop and then leave it on. But a day later or two, the laptop goes off (I'm not sure if it sleepmode or really shuts off). But when he tries again he can't get it to boot to windows.
So it's a problem that comes back anyway, maybe check the laptop for dust? if that is the cause, it would be simple hé![]()
Latest finding:
I took the risk to restart the laptop: laptop started without any problem.
I also closed windows completly so I have to manualy start the laptop: laptop stared without problem.
But if I start speccy again after the laptop starts, It seems that the temp is very high at startup:
cpu: around 63 °C
motherboard: aroun 65 °C I I even saw 67°C!.
I went to taskmanager to see what is making the processor work that hard: all processors have 00, strange.
skype used the most memory, I update it and the temperature started to get normal (coincidence?).
lets start the laptop again(restart) and see if temperature is low:
coincidene yes, still same high temperatures; taskmanager shows now that the proces HPMSGSVC.exe ( HP Quick Launch Buttons, I just updated it with the hp advisor utility) is using 50% of the cpu.let disable the proces and restart system
Temperature is stable (yellow color).
Is it posible that certain software makes the laptop heating up??
hmm, I'm to fast, I see a 62°C on the motherboard but cpu is stable 53°C. But motherboard is going back to 55°C.
I think the startup doesn't heat up the laptop anymore? hmmm now motherboard is 52°C. processor 50°C.
Would it be solved? or maybe I have to take away the dust to be certain?

An HP expert from the HP forum, thinks that the video chip has a problem. I could let the video chip be "reballed".
But I don't want my neighbour to spend money in it, would following solution help?
I notices the laptop has two graphic cards. one internal and one separated card (don't how to see this card being installed, same chip or not?).
When I put the battery charger in , the program ATI PowerXpress asks if I want to change the graphic processor.
these are:
ATI AMD M880G with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 and
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650.
When I was working with the laptop without the powercable plugged, the battery was almost empty, so I connected the powercable. Then I saw the message to choose the powerful graphic processor.
I said yes, and tested it out. I did saw the picture showing movements like if a cable connection between screen and motherboard was not 100% pluggged. but I could still see the image.
I hoped that the laptop would shut down but now it's 4 days at a row and laptop is shutting down (manually) and starting without any problems.
So this put me thinking. If I choose not to automatically change the graphic processor and leave the integrated processor on, because I think that the seperated processor is causing the shutdown. Can this help? Without putting money in the laptop and be satisfied with the integrated processor?
I will certainly let you all know how it's goes. I'm just waiting for the laptop to shutdown itself.
I'm just not sure if the graphic processor are realy two separated cards??
and I also hope that if I cannot start anymore the laptop, that the fix to start the laptop is to take out the battery, power cable and CMOS battery. wait for a while, then bootup the laptop pressing F2 (if I don't press F2 , nothing happes, only the same thing: caps lock led flashes), so I BIOS starts. Then I think if I exit the BIOS the laptop starts without a problem.
Because , I think, the integrated graphic card will be used.
But 'm not sure if this can help, as it only occured ones. Maybe it's accidental that the system booted up normally after exiting BIOS?
I will update everyone or if someone has a equivalent problem, maybe you can try it out?
Hmmm
