    Good morning,

Would some of you give me some ideas? My laptop hp dv6000 suddenly started taking a long time to open programs.I have high speed cable, but the laptop is operating as though it's on dial up.

I don't know how to correct this problem,in fact,I don't even know where to start. Thanks in advance for your help.

whats ur system config ???? i had a similar problem when the power adapter showed some malfunction. check ur cpu clock speed. u must have accidentally disabled intel speed step and this may be slowing down ur system. go to the bios and see this is enabled. before that make sure you havent accidentally selected the "power saver" power plan- this limits the cpu max state to 50%
if none of these solves the issue do a benchmark with everest and post the scores

Open up Task Manager and see what processes are chewing up CPU time.

I'd have to agree with you. One time, my laptop wasn't really running well, only later to find out that I mistakenly switched my power option to "power saver". Just make sure it's on "high performance" and that nothing is really chewing up the processor.

    Good morning,

I really appreciate all of your efforts to help me & I have noted them in case I have this problem recur. Now,I have a confession  .After trying some of the remedies you all offered, and getting more frustrated with my ignorance for not being able to get my 'puter to work correctly,I suddenly got an idea.
So I called the cable company and quickly learned that they were experiencing problems :( and would have them resolved before the end of the day.I went out to work on my car for several hours and came back to a 'puter that was operating as it should.
From here on out when my 'puter slows down,I'll start at the source. Thanks to everyone who offered help to me.
