I had the same problem with my old dv6000 lappy. I tried to acquire the right drivers and tweak the settings....but it turned out it was a hardware (mechanical issue). In addition my wifi also stopped functioning after the speakers went down. If you still are under hp warranty try to get them replaced. In my case I spent 3 hours on the phone with someone from india (customer service) who directed me to disassemble the unit and check the status of the wifi. In terms of speakers... he deemed they were damaged. I sent the unit to hp....waited two months....and found out they lost the laptop. Eventually... upon calling them multiple times they decided to custom build me another laptop...any specs I wanted since I stressed it was a 1500 dollar machine (at the time i bought it). at the time i decided to go with the best amd machine...being so unaware of performace gains from intel. good luck.

just call hp and try to get them replaced. it seems like a hardware issue.
