1st off this is my brothers laptop so i am short on details right now, but this is basically what happened.

my 2 brothers were playing warcraft 3 together one on the desktop the other on the laptop. after playing a long game they shut it down for the night. the next day my brother went to start up the laptop and nothing happened. for some reason it simply will not start up. the battery is not dead and he has tried starting it while plugged in.

any ideas what this might be? how easy will it be to fix?

It would probably help if you guys new what model it was, i will try and get that. he runs windows vista 64bit if that helps any

Tell him to try disconnecting the power plug, then pull the battery, and hold in the power button for 10-15 seconds. Then put the battery and power plug back in and try again.

i cannot remember which model it is. hopefully he can let me know soon.

it does have a NVIDIA graphics chip i know because it has a sticker by the mousepad that says so.

he bought the computer about a year and a half ago on black friday and it has the 17 inch screen if that helps identify it.

    Pavilion dv9620us specifications

Same NVIDIA chip issue, HP is just choosing to not help you. The only known ways to fix it yourself are to replace the motherboard, which is too expensive and too likely to have the same problem eventually, and "reflowing" the NVIDIA northbridge/GPU chip. Reflowing is a high risk, last-ditch fix. Search this forum to find instructions.

the only thing that does anything is the battery light can go on...everything else does absolutely nothin at all...no noise coming from the computer no lights going on.
