i have just bought the Hp Pavilion DV2278 and i am very pleased with it.

however a Hp registration window keeps opening itself. I have already used this window to register with hp.

the next time it opened up i clicked the dont remind me again button.

this window is becoming a real pain as it keeps opening itself.

does anyone know how to stop this window from opening?????

    thanks

Is it just when you turn it on?

try finding it in the startup sheet of your msconfig (start/run/msconfig). Disable its autostart and it should disappear.

To prevent the registration screen from popping up.

    1. Click the Window Logo Key
    2. Type "MSConfig" in the search box and hit enter.
    3. Choose "Selective Startup" radio button
    4. Click Tab Labeled "Startup"
    5. Uncheck "HPRun"
    6. Click "Apply"
    7. Restart the computer

This will prevent the process "HPSdpApp.exe" from running which is what causes the pop-up registration. Hope this helps.

While were on this topic, is it neccessary to have HPUpdate running in startup? Do they really send useful updates or is it just another method to push bloatware?

It is only slightly useful if you use HP printers & the associated software. They do release updates for these through the HP update. The rest of the software you would be better off manually instaling the updates.
