i dont know if this is the right place to post this but:
which of these two hp tablets are better for the price offered:

    athlon model: http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10107609&catid=

    turion model; http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10107611&catid=

the only differences between the two (other than the processors) are that the turion has bluetooth, + 1gig of ram, and 100 or so more hd space.

so, i want to know which one is better for the price offered and is there too much of a difference between the processors the only difference between the two processors that i figures was:

turions' frequency is up by 100 mhz, and it uses 31 watts and athlon uses 35 (is that too much of a difference on battery life).

btw im not too much of a computer person and i have no clue.

also if i could know which processor is better, i would appreciate it.
    thanks.

Turion is just another name for Athlon. AMD processors are well known for handling background processes very well. IF you're a workaholic, AMD would suit your needs.

However, the Turion with 2GHz is a slightly newer model with an extra gigabyte of ram and another 100 Gigabytes or so of Hard Drive.

I honestly don't think you'll notice much of a difference in performance between the two. 3 Gigabytes of ram will do just fine.

I'm not sure how much software and what not you will be using so I cannot comment on the efficiency of the hard drive space.

In conclusion, both notebooks are equally nice. The $899 notebook will be more than enough and is more cost effective. There would be very little gain except for hard drive space if you chose the latter.

Yeah, the Turion will be slightly faster & better on power as well. But the difference is not too worthwhile to spend the 200 on it. The athlon QO's are actually based off the new Griffin processors and so shares some of the same benefits as the Turion. but since they are sold as budget versions, they only support DDR2 667 memory, have less efficient power saving mechanisms & also lack amd-v support.

Whats you budget limit? I would suggest the one with the RM-70 but if you have to settle for the QL-60 based one, its not too bad either.

    thanks for the reply,
one question tho, since ive heard alot about these tablets overheating - do you guys think the turion would run cooler than the athlon.

I'd imagine that the temperatures would be comparable.

The QL-60 does not support DDR2-800? I guess the possible upgrade path I was discussing with Chaz is out the window, which now explains why HP is shipping the SI-40/QL-60 models with DDR2-667. I just thought they were being cheap.

    Bummer.

It does not overheat! Overheating is when the system either shuts down or lowers performance in order to save itself from destruction. The tx2500 doesnt do that but yes it does run a bit warm especially on A/C power and when you are doing intensive tasks(encoding, gaming etc). In any case I dont think many people would want to keep the laptop on their lap while encoding or gaming. But when on battery its perfectly cool, I have used it continuously for 4+ hours on battery taking notes, surfing web etc and the bottom of the laptop is usually either at room temperature or a bit over, certainly nothing even close to being hot.

As far as heat output is concerned, the Turion has lower power state and can downclock to [email protected] while the Athlon can only go down to about [email protected], so it will be a bit warmer at idle but the max temperatures should be quite similar.

Yeah, but for the average economy buyer it really doesnt matter considering the not-noticable benefits of DDR2 800 memory.

I see. It was just a theoretical experiment to see if a few points could be eeked out on 3DMark06 with the IGP using DDR2-800.

I assume the RM-70 has the full power states and ram compatibility of the Ultra ZM cpus? The AMD specs don't say much.....

Yeah, the RM-70 is a full fledged Turion except for the 1MB L2 instead of 2MB for the Ultra's. BTW, how much did the 8200M score in 3DM06?

840 with 2GB DDR2-667. I personally was *hoping* for a bit better, but both Chaz and myself originally figured it to be somewhere around a Go 7400 before the test.

I assume your HD3200 kicks the tar out of it, if the notebookcheck scores are reasonably accurate....
