hey everyone. i just found out something really cool. I always thought that with the hp tv tuner i needed to connect that bulky IR receiver in order to use the nice remote. lo and behold i dont. I'm using it right now without any IR receiver but the one built into the laptop.

I tried that and no luck, how did you get it to work.
-
I honestly haven't got a clue in the world. I was playing around with the the remote that comes with the laptop and the TV tuner remote and out of nowhere it started working. Accidently my Sister was playing with it and she pushed the power button on the tv tuner remote and my lappy shut down. From then on it worked. Crazy Huh. Or maybe it's just that the Special Edition Allows it to work without that bulky receiver garbage

guess I'll continue to play with mine maybe that will work for me. Thanks
-
go for it. It worked for me. I think it's able to. but hp does something. i mean it's still IR and the lappy has an IR receiver so somewhere along the lines of IR it should work. I dont know why HP bundles that Big piece of junk, It's such a pain to use it

The standard (small express card slot sized) remote should work with a tuner card used with all of the recent laptops. If it doesn't, then you are not close enough (just a few feet and line-of-sight), aiming directly at the remote at the IR port on your laptop, you never installed the battery right on your remote or the battery is dead, or something is broken (remote or laptop)

No such luck with my dv9000t. Only the little chiclet remote works, not the big tv tuner one.

For the big one, did you install the extender?
-
whats the extender?

Whats weird is that for some very odd reason. no only some functions of the remote work. the arrow keys and volume not the numbers and the actual windows media center startup button. is there any way to reconfigure it or something. Thanks
