Is there a way for the fan on this model to be less noisy?
Also, this is my first notebook...Why do I have 2 sets of GHz? One says Intel Mobile P4 2.30GHz and beneath that is 1.58GHz. What does the second GHz represent?

I'm not totally sure but I believe with your proccsor the top number is part of the product name like Intel Mobile P4 2.30GHz (this is also your maxium speed)
The second number below it is the speed it is currently running at. Because it's a mobile proccsor it has the ability to slow down to save power and create less heat, when doing this your fan should also slow down because there is less heate to move out of your notebook. If you want to test this you can click on your power schemes in either control panel or next to your clock in the lower right corner. If you put the computer on "Always On" the proccsor no matter what will go up to its maximum of 2.30GHz and after it heats up the fan should go faster too, then to slow it down put it on "laptop/portable" then check the speed again in a minute and it should be lower and after a few minutes the fan should slow too. The fan is not something you can or should be able to control, the computer determines the best speed for it to run accordiing to the tempertures of system components. If you wish to have the fan going as slow as possible put your machine on "laptop/poratble" and the less programs and proccses you have running at a time the cooler it will be.
