hello there!i'm posting from portugal and i need your help![]()
i just bought an hp zv5235ea and was wondering aboout some features.as i've read before this athlon64 3000+ has a variable processor speed.mine reaches 1.80ghz as predicted but if i set power management to deskotp instead of notebook (at control panel) the processor runs fixed at 1.80ghz and the temperature reaches about 48ºC to 50ºC or a bit more.is that normal? shoul i run it always at notebook power mode?
thank you for your time.
best regards![]()

That's actually a little better than normal. The fans won't kick in hard until around 60C. I do recommend leaving the Power Scheme setting at "Portable/Laptop" since it does make the notebook run much cooler and there's no noticible performance penalty. You should idle at 40C or less in Portable/Laptop mode. MobileMeter is great for monitoring temps.
Before you do that, could you get ClockGen for nForce3 and tell us what it says your current voltage level is? At full speed it should be 1.5V if you have a 130nm Athlon 64, but it'll be 1.3V or 1.4V if you have one of the new 90nm CPUs. Your CPU temp sounds like what you'd get with the new 90nm chip. The older CPUs can be undervolted with ClockGen (1GHz at 0.85V and full speed at 1.3V works for me, set your Power Scheme to "Always On" if you do this). It'll be very interesting to see what the new chips can do.Last edited by a moderator: May 5, 2015 -
first of all thank you for answering me. i already had mobile meter and my processor runs most time at 800mhz always below 40ºC. when pushed to 1.8ghz by changing power mode to desktop it does not go over 55 or 60ºC (mostly 55ºC).
with cpu-z it says it is a socket 754, 0.13micron technology, clawhammer, 9x multiplier, core speed (variable) 1800mhz and htt 200mhz.
with clockgen voltage is at 1.500v (max 1.550v) and memory at 163.64.
i don't know what else to say here because i'm still learning about all this.
thank you for your support.
i'll be in touch
