I plan to get either an HP zv6000 or Compaq R4000. Having a hard time choosing which one looks better. I'm leaning more towards the HP, but for only $50 more I'll get the 3800+ instead of the 3500+. Which should I get? I do a lot of video encoding, online stuff, office related tasks, and video and photo editing. I do absolutely no gaming so won't need great graphics or a lot of RAM. I am planning to get a 256 MB stick from HP since it costs so much to upgrade, and add either a 512 MB stick or a 1 GB stick. Which should I go with? Will there be a noticeable performance boost? I appreciate any input.

I guess you could get the one which offers better value...or if you like one design over the other. The difference between the procs will most probably noticable if you do heavy editing. The 3800+ will definately edge out the 3500+, but for general use there wont be any significant differences. The HP does have an iRDa port which can only be used with a HP remote. So not much advantage there....

So as i said, get the one which offers better value.

As for RAM, the more the better...get 1GB, it will definately improve performance quite significantly.

If you are planning on doing any video encoding, a faster hard drive will help noticeably.

Thanks for your input. Miner, I notice you have a Compaq Presario R3340US, how does that run, with the 512 MB?

For practical uses like email, web browsing, dvd-writing, word processing (which is about all that I do) I have noticed zero performance differences between having 512mb & 1,024mb of RAM in my r4000us.
