I purchased a dv7t using a coupon, then after it shipped, I wanted to use a different coupon which would save me more money. But, hp said that I would have to return the notebook and place a new order. Wouldn't it be easier and logical to just refund the difference?

Has anyone else experienced this and found a way around this ridiculous policy?

as discussed in the dv7t thread --

this has happened to many people. some people returned dv7t that they had for a week or two. i myself returned a dv7t that i had for about 5 days, and when i was on the phone with HP getting the RMA for the unit i had, i placed an order for a unit with better specs and applied the new coupon code that i had.

there was even someone who was issued an RMA WHILE HIS 1st LAPTOP WAS STILL IN FEDEX POSESSION AND ON THE WAY TO HIS HOUSE! he did not even have the laptop in his hands yet and already had a return authorization for it. at the same time, he placed an order for a new notebook with the 30% coupon code.

crazy? yes, but it works. and if this is the way HP wants to work, then that's fine.

the only thing that sucks is waiting for the 2nd unit to ship...... =/

you have two choices in this case:

    1) get an RMA for the current notebook. drop the current notebook off at a fedex location to get shipped to HP's RMA offices (memphis, TN) . during this time (~5 days), you can pray that when they recieve the unit, and you are refunded your money - that the new coupon code still is valid!!! keep in mind that when HP issues you a credit, it will be recognized by your bank in 3-5 business days or something to that effect.

option 2) get an RMA for the current unit, and as you are on the phone getting this RMA, order another unit.

pro of option 2 you can use the new (and better) coupon code that same day when you know it's valid.

    cons's of option 2)
you will have 2 laptops billed to you for a period of time before the recieve the 1st one back. when they recieve it however, you get your $ back.

It's a weird way of doing business, but surprisingly enough HP still had a big profit gain in the third quarter. It was partially my fault though. I love the DV7t.

Yea...sometimes it takes a lot of timing so you don't end up having to pay twice on one credit card cycle

What happened to the 30% off coupon (NB8821)? The expiration wasn't until 9/2/2008 11:59:59 PM

There's usage limits on their coupons too.

When will the next 30% coupon likely come out?

Is this something HP does on a regular basis or is it random?

Most of HP coupons have limited number of uses, so if its reached x number of uses before the expiration date, then you are probably out of luck

No, it was good on the Dv5t too because I configured one the day before and it applied but when I went back the next day it was gone.

They only have a 5% coupon now!

He meant that the coupon could be used up to 2,700 times before it was deactivated.
