    when i got my hp dv 9650 i made a recovery disc but i don't think the disc came out right cause i didn't notice any finalizing . well since then i've been using my laptop and it's acting kind of buggy and i want to reinstall vista. whats the best way for me to go about doing this. thanks for the help.

    If it finished burning without errors, its probably fine. You could use the recovery partition as well. I beleive you press F11 at startup.

    thanks i dont care about the media thats on the hard drives cause i have them backed up.I'll try reinstalling it this weekend.

    You can also do a clean install. The instructions are on the first page of the Hp & Compaq forum. If you dont have the required Anytime Upgrade Disc you can get one from Microsoft or Amazon for under ten bucks. A clean install is better than using those discs you burned or even the recovery partition. As this install only installs the OS and NOTHING else.
