For what reasons would someone need i7 over i5?

I want to get it for the Envy 15 because I always want to have the latest and greatest (It's a disease of mine).

But I don't use my computer for anything other than movies, work and occasionally games.

Am i going to regret not having i7 2 years from now?

Also does the i5 version have USB 3.0. (Envy 15)
And what is the difference in battery life?

Lastly, does anyone know how long the BCB 25% cash back deal will last? And will there be another one before July 30th?

i5 is good enough for gaming; and should be good enough 2 years down the road.

i7 will make your laptop alot hotter and drain the battery quicker.

it seems like you cannot configure the i5 processors with more than 4GB of RAM..

is there a way to work around that?

    ^yes, ram is user-upgradable.

Also, to answer OP- i7 is really good for applications which can utilize 4 cores efficiently, like Video encoding. A few games also have begun to utilize its 4 cores.

Am i going to regret not having i7 2 years from now? i5 can handle most of everything. i have i7 just so i dont have that feeling of regret =P

Also does the i5 version have USB 3.0. (Envy 15). No. only i7 system have 3.0

And what is the difference in battery life? i5 > i7 in battery life.

"anything other than movies, work and occasionally games." i5 can handle all that perfectly.

Your not going to regret it. You wont have heat problem and short battery life. both CPU is almost the same. I think the i7 has only USB 3.0.
