Will have to look at these new laptops tomorrow. Weird thing is that HP doesn't have that much iCores on their site.
-
Umm, HP has had the dv4i, dv6t, dv7t, and Envy15 on their site with Core i5/i7's for a while now.
-
shot that birdy downnnnnnn
-
oh thats what he meant by icore...i was totally confused.
-
What is this "4 way processing" bestbuy is advertising with the Intel iCore notebooks?
-
It just means 2 cores with 4 threads (i3). And "8 way processing" means 4 cores with 8 threads (i7).
And can we please stop calling them iCores? -
Hyperthreading sounds better lol.
Yeah i agree stop calling them iCores,it sounds like one of the overpriced things from apple. -
Which "iCore" models are at Best Buy?
-
What am I? Your Best Buy valet?
Go to the darn website and sort the computers by processor. -
A Dell or two,some HP's and a real sharp looking 14'' Toshiba.
But...most of these only have intel graphics atm. -
How does an i3 compare to a C2D? As in the dv6 1355dx vs the 2155dx?
-
I might be wrong but,
I've heard that the i3 are no different than C2D. -
I have also heard they are a replacement. They do have L3 cache.
-
There's speculation that Intel is going to rebrand the Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad processors into Core i's, but current Core i3s are Arrendale, a completely different architecture. Improvements include a 32nm process as well as adding Hyperthreading.
-
Might call it i2 eheheh
-
Sorry, I guess. I was under the impression that we were talking about them being at Best Buy on display.
-
Hyperthreading? AMD had that for a long time now. The new Core CPU's basically has the vid chip with the CPU in one unit. Some i5 and i7 has the hyperboost feature and none for i3. Basically the main advantage is better battery life. Hard to decide between a C2D or a Core chip. It's about a $30 difference.
-
Compared to equal quality laptops like HP Elitebooks the Mac laptops are very well priced. You can't really compare them to el cheapo plasticky PC laptops typical of what Best Buy sells and most people buy.
-
The problem with Arrandale is they are all two physical cores with two virtual threads. I'm seeing really good results using an i7 Mac with four physical and 4 virtual cores for a total of 8 but would still much prefer 4 physical cores. Your mileage will vary with Windows since it does not make very good use of threads due to its still awful scheduler.

Most people don't need more than "el cheapo" plasticky laptops, understanding that a notebook is a delicate piece of electronics even if portable. Metal casing doesn't make them a lot more durable,(look at the thinkpad,it's plastic)it just keeps the outside looking nice if you plan to be hard on them like the typical mac owner.
The AMD desktop rig i have doesn't have HT,does it go for PhenomII's only?
With the graphics video chip on the same chip die as the cpu,it might heat up less and seems more efficient. -
That's not a problem. It's designed that way to achieve a lower energy consumption. Not every computer can handle a processor with a 45W TDP.
-
The bold statement is the only thing you said that is correct.
AMD has never had a processor with SMT(Hyperthreading is Intel's implemention of SMT).
I'm guessing by hyperboost you mean Turbo Boost
iCores are out at BestBuy's website
