All I want to do is get a new drive and install Xp on a V6000t.
Does XP have SATA in it, so this will work, or do I need to do some magic?
-
XP does not have native SATA support, Vista does however. You will need to create a custom install using nLite and integrate the SATA driver. Otherwise just disable SATA in the BIOS and install XP without it, there isn't really much difference.

So if I disable SATA in the bios, the SATA drive will still work?
I'm trying to do the nlite thing right now, but just creating the driver sems to want to write it to a floppy.. -

So the ONLY steps I need to do:
disable sata in bios
install empty hard drive
install windows xp
install drivers i downloaded from hp's site
that easy?
whats the downside of not having sata drivers? -
I also just used nlite and think i've got a new XP disk with ALL the sound, card etc drivers slipstreamed in. Good idea?
-
Btw, this is the case only with the Intel based machines. AMD's version of the notebook has no problems (obviously Nvidia's chipset was better prepared)

If i can disable SATA in the bios and it still works AND xp is without SATA drivers, what is it I'm missing here?
Surely i need to install SATA support somehow? -
Yes, install the SATA drivers after you install Windows. Follow the steps described in the guide(step 13 till 21)...
