The DV4 will destroy the Sony in gaming, but for everyday purposes the Sony will be better or on par

Unless I've misread the Lenovo Y470's benchmarks, the dv4 is probably most powerful 14" laptop after the Alienware M14x.

The amd 6750m should be a good deal more powerful than the nvidia 550m. It should be a little under the 555m/match it.

That seems like a rather high projection. I'd say the 6750m is equal to the 550m.

The 555m is generally the 6770m counterpart from Nvidia

except there are 5 radically different versions of the 555m that make it difficult to benchmark for conclusive comparisons

i haven't seen the "perfect" 555m anywhere except on the xps 17 or m14x

    it's not the most common.

Any one got hands on this i.e DV4-3016tx?
with HD6750 and i5-2410 looks the best deal for under 45k, does this have graphic card switching problem as in case of dv6-6100 series?

as with all HP pavillions, it looks bigger from pictures but when you see it in person, the black part is kind of hidden so it looks a lot smaller. you see the silver chassis? my dv6 looks that small even though there's a black part underneath it

I bet they will ruin it with undersized cooling, bad screen, bad workmanship and noisy fans.
I really hope not, but, things as promising as this are bound to fail. No exceptions.

you can't have your cake and eat it too. a 6750m will obv. run hotter and need more fan cooling

Oh, then no laptops in HP is unaffected with this........can this issue be solved without replaceing hardware?
And will GTA4,NFS Shift,Dirt2,COD and importantly CAD softs like autocad that i presently use will they behave badly with it?

most, if not all, of the current problems are understood to be driver-level issues specific to windows, not hardware issues.

but for the moment, you'll have performance issues running opengl-only programs, which are pretty rare despite the few notable cases like photoshop, minecraft, etc.

Personally I don't see why photoshop is considered to be so intensive, I've run it on computers without discrete GPUs and it runs fine.

Well photoshop with normal effects works well on intel HD graphics or any weak card but some effects creates a lag as you could notice even if you smudge a larger area, but still Intel HD3000 is almost nearer to ATI HD5450 so not a problem for photoshop

I have bought this laptop two days ago. It was priced at RM2889 in Malaysia.

Reading the specs at the shop I and looking at its size and weight (Very light and small compared to my now ancient DV5T-1006tx) I just had to have it :D. However I wasn't aware of the DV6/switchable graphics issue.

What is the issue about? is it serious? I am going to try benchmarking this laptop soon running at its native resolution and will upload my findings soon. Hope it will help.

It comes with the normal HP bloatware, but the battery life is very impressive! 5hours on battery for surfing the web and playing around with a wacom tablet.

Finally got this machine after days of deliberation for Rs.40000 (around $900). So far so good. Haven't tested any games on it, and it's not a muxless design so we have to choose GPU from AMD control panel. OpenGL issues should not exist then. Build is decent for the price. The lattice imprint is a bit uneven on a finer glance and faux aluminum tidbits aren't put together that great.

The hd6750 looks like a real killer on a 14".
I am seriously thinking about getting the dv4 within the next 2 weeks and need advise from people here who bought one.

Anyone has problems with throttling ,instablility or crashes while heavy gaming?
Previous dv4 was plagued with overheating and shut down problems. What about the dv4 3100?
If there is, would the mx11 be a better bet? dv3100 looks too good to be true.

    Please advice! TQ

Can someone post a brief review on this laptop?
    How is the battery life?
    Heat?
    is it a switchable graphics?
    Is it easily upgrade-able?
A few pics of the laptop showing KB, and ports would be great..

im getting 5hours battery life while using the intel graphics
heat management is good.even with the ati gpu.fan is blowing through the back end of the latpop not downwards to your legs.
    yes it has switchable graphics.
what upgrades do u want? the most u can do is change the ram/hdd just like other laptops
try googling for pictures..the KB is not back lit..
gaming wise its very good. played crysis on high with no stutter etc.

I'm pretty sure they aren't really going out of the PC buisness. They are thinking of maybe "spinning it off" so I'm guessing AT WORST it might become similar to an IBM thinkpads to Lenovo kind of thing. I really don't think this will happen in the near future though.
