    hi,
    am using compaq presario c794wu laptop, os service pack 2. Problem is that the inbuilt mic is not working. While using ubuntu 8.1, mic is working properly and i recorded..

    wats the prob in mic while usin xp..? :)

    From what you said, it should be driver problem. All you have to do is finding a new driver and installing it. That would do it.
